Public Finance Data
This page is devoted to visualizing public finance and budgeting.
We’re doing this for several reasons:
- As a public service, furthering our efforts to “make the public’s data, public.”
- As a test bed for experimenting with technologies to aid in visualizing, interacting with, analyzing, and better understanding data – that’s how we turn it into information and then knowledge, and then into better decisions.
- To support our work with New York clients concerned with public policy issues.
We’ll start with New York State’s Budget.
Below are the first visualizations for the spending side of the Budget. More will be added shortly. When we have sufficient data regarding revenue, we will add that as well.
You can navigate to the budget visualizations by using the triangular pull-down or by scrolling and clicking on the tabs at the top of each page.
The last tab, Interactive Budget Explorer, is the geekiest. It will take a bit more effort on your part, but that’s because it leaves most of the choices to the user. So if you want to explore detail, this is where you can do it.
We hope you find this useful. Please feel free to suggest improvements.
